The beautiful Imari porcelain vases in this pair are superb demonstrations of Japanese art and design. Each vase is traditionally shaped, with a bulbous body, a narrow neck, and a broad rim with ruffled edges. The measurements are 10.5" in diameter at the mouth and 25" in height.
The bodies depict traditionally dressed figures in idealised, abstracted landscapes, amid borders of flowers and other traditional Japanese motifs. The bottoms have traces of original characters.
The bodies are hand-thrown, and the surfaces are all hand-painted in a near-matching design pattern. Traditional iron red, blues, and greens are used in the scenes.
