If you have the room for it, this is an extraordinarily interesting - and useful - table: Early Victorian mahogany "metamorphic" table/library steps, England circa 1870. Featuring wonderful figured mahogany top and sides, the hinged table top raises to reveal a library ladder with arm rails and with green baize covered treads; the circular turned and tapered legs terminate in brass caster feet. A beautiful table and a prime example of the creativity of design that was emblematic of the Victorian period.
This table was purchased at auction at Sotheby's in New York in late 1987 (auction date 12/12/87) for display in our high-end interior design and furniture showroom. It was almost always a magnet for attention, though it never sold but was always on display.
The piece is in excellent working condition; any scratches or imperfections are consistent with age. There has been no restoration work on this table. It is in the same condition as it was when purchased at Sotheby's.

110" high.
