Designed by Christopher Miner Spencer, the Spencer Model 1860 Carbine was one of the most revolutionary repeating firearms of the American Civil War. Its seven-round tubular magazine gave Union cavalry a tremendous advantage in sustained firepower over contemporary single-shot arms. Manufactured by the Spencer Repeating Rifle Company, these carbines earned an outstanding reputation for reliability and durability in military service and remained in use even after the Civil War. Original Spencer carbines are among the most desirable American military firearms of the 19th century due to their innovative design and historical significance.
