This British Tower Snider conversion carbine is chambered in .577 caliber and features a 19-inch barrel with a 14-inch length of pull. The barrel shows evidence of having been polished by a previous owner, resulting in a finish that differs from the original military configuration. The firearm is in functional mechanical condition and shows minor signs of use and wear consistent with normal handling and age. The bore is in good condition.

The British Snider conversion system was adopted during the 1860s as a practical means of converting existing Pattern 1853 Enfield muzzleloading rifles into breech-loading cartridge arms. Manufactured at the Tower Armouries and by various contractors, Snider carbines and converted rifles saw widespread service throughout the British Empire.
