This U.S. Springfield Model 1862 rifled musket was manufactured in 1864 and is chambered in .58 caliber percussion. It features a 39.5-inch barrel with a 13.5-inch length of pull. The hammer and trigger function as designed. The firearm shows an age-related patina and normal signs of use and wear consistent with Civil War-era service. The stock has a small crack near the recoil lug area. The bore is in good condition with visible rifling.
The Springfield Model 1862 was one of the primary infantry arms used by Union forces during the American Civil War and was produced at Springfield Armory as an evolution of the earlier Model 1861 design. These .58 caliber rifled muskets saw extensive wartime service and remain among the most historically significant American military firearms of the 19th century.
