This German M40 Stahlhelm features an original WWII steel shell that has been refinished with a modern snow camouflage paint application. The helmet includes a replacement liner installed into the original shell. It does not include a chinstrap. The shell exhibits age-related wear beneath the refinished surface consistent with its historical use, while the current exterior finish reflects a later applied camouflage scheme.
The M40 Stahlhelm was introduced in 1940 and became one of the standard combat helmets used by German forces throughout World War II. Designed as an evolution of earlier Stahlhelm patterns, it offered improved manufacturing efficiency while retaining the distinctive combat profile. Original shells remain highly collected today, particularly when retained in identifiable wartime configuration, even when later modified for display purposes.
