Original Japanese iron tsuba featuring floral-style decoration. The guard is constructed of iron with cutout and/or relief detailing consistent with traditional Japanese sword fittings. The surface shows age-related wear, patina, and handling marks consistent with long-term storage and historical use.
Tsuba such as this were mounted on Japanese swords to protect the hand and provide balance to the blade assembly. Floral motifs were commonly used in decorative sword fittings across various periods, including Edo and Meiji-era craftsmanship traditions. This example remains a desirable decorative and collectible piece of Japanese sword furniture.
