This is a World War II-era Japanese Hinomaru (National Flag) "Souvenir" flag , customized by or for an Allied servicemanlikely a US soldier or Marine.
The base flag is a standard silk Japanese national flag. Servicemen frequently captured or found these flags and used them as canvases to draw illustrations of their deployment journey. The text "6th ARMY" is written next to a hand-drawn 6th Army insignia (a six-pointed star with an 'A' inside). The US 6th Army fought extensively in the Pacific theater, including New Guinea and the Philippines.
