This is a United States Army field jacket dating from the late 1940s to the Korean War era. The jacket is constructed from Olive Drab cotton sateen and follows a design similar to the Model 1943 field jacket, though it features a transition-era configuration including a front metal zipper closure protected by a buttoned storm flap. The garment features four large exterior patch pockets with exposed button-down flaps, shoulder epaulets, and a notched collar. The right shoulder is adorned with a 48-star United States flag patch of printed-gauze construction, typical of theater-made or invasion-issue insignia of the period. Both sleeves feature Sergeant rank chevrons (three stripes) of the smaller pattern adopted by the Army in 1948. The interior neck contains a white rectangular cloth label with green ink markings that have become illegible due to extensive fading. The hardware consists of a metal front zipper and dark brown plastic buttons throughout. We do our best to describe all items in the sale, and we definitely take a ton of photos.
