This hand-driven Berliner disc Gramophone is a hand-cranked talking machine patented by Emile Berliner in 1887. It is the historical ancestor of all modern disc records. Hand-driven Berliner Gramophones, frequently called the string-wind Berliner, were first offered for sale in 1894. This all original machine in in VG condition. The string drive has been replaced. It is mounted on the original wood board with original aluminum Berliner tag and stamped E. Berliner Graphophone and the patent dates, the last being 1895. The gutta percha arm support is in good condition as well as all other parts on this machine. The horn has the expected minor dents and paint scratches, retains the original pinstriping, and connects to the strap reproducer with an original leather elbow. It comes with the original wood storage box that is in good condition with no cracks or repairs to the wood but the rear hinges are in need of repair. The machine measures 16" wide, 9.75" deep, and 15" tall to the top of the horn when fully assembled. The storage box measures 16.75" wide, 10.75" deep, 11.75" tall.
