Description
""LB:40" notation is thought to be a collector’s or cataloguer’s note referencing Adam von Bartsch. Le Peintre Graveur is Bartsch’s 21-volume catalogue of old master prints. “B:40” or “LB:40” would point to Bartsch vol. 40 or plate 40 where German chiaroscuro woodcuts are listed. Büsinck’s works appear in Bartsch and later in The Illustrated Bartsch.Büsinck signed his plates ""L. Büsinck sc."" The “LB” in the image is his standard conjoined monogram. He was known to use initials and was active as both painter and wood-engraver. there is some evidence from owners notes that the artist is Ambrosius Franklin "
