This large hand-embroidered textile panel is a Phulkari from the Punjab region of South Asia. The piece is constructed on a hand-spun and hand-loomed earthy orange cotton ground known as khaddar. The surface is decorated with a dense all-over pattern featuring large eight-pointed floral medallions and circular geometric motifs. The embroidery is executed in vibrant silk floss, known as pat, in shades of magenta, yellow, cerulean blue, teal, and green. Smaller leaf motifs are scattered between the primary medallions. One end features a decorative border with repeating floral-in-circle patterns and stylized geometric elements.
Dimensions: approximately 12 feet x 9.5 feet.
The textile is in fair condition with signs of age and use. There is staining and minor discoloration visible on the cotton ground fabric. Loose or pulled embroidery threads are present throughout the piece. The colors of the silk embroidery remain exceptionally vibrant.
