Description
This finely crafted porcelain figurine from Gräfenthal, dating to the late 19th century, measures approximately 6½ inches in height and 12 inches in length. Depicting an ornate horse-drawn carriage, the piece is rich in detail and charm, echoing the elegance of the Rococo period.
A lady gracefully descends from the carriage, her soft pink and yellow gown, flows from a fitted blue bodice. Delicate ruffled sleeves, floral embellishments, and a low scooped neckline capture the opulence and romantic flair characteristic of Rococo fashion.
Awaiting her arrival is a young gentleman, bowing slightly, hat in one hand and a bouquet in the other. He is dressed in a deep green frock coat, tailored to perfection, with yellow knee-breeches, white stockings, and black shoes—each detail exquisitely rendered in porcelain.
Above them, the coachman sits poised in his seat, clad in a dark overcoat and traditional tricorn hat, waiting patiently.
The four horses, with delicately modeled musculature and flowing manes, stand in naturalistic poses. Their soft ivory-toned coats are marked with brown patches, adding to the lifelike quality of the piece.
Beneath it all, the base—adorned with swirling floral scrollwork and vibrant accents—not only supports the scene but enhances its sense of movement and refinement.
This exceptional figurine exemplifies the technical mastery and romantic storytelling that made Unger, Schneider & Cie internationally renowned in the 1870s and 1880s.
