This Blue Willow platter with its rich cobalt blue design is a classic of English transfer-ware, known for its ironstone or high quality earthenware, designed for both decorative use and durability. The "Blue Willow" pattern features an incredible story telling motif. To be authentic Blue Willow, the pattern must include these specific items depicting the legend of Star-crossed lovers; a large pagoda, a bridge with three figures, a small boat, and a prominent weeping willow tree. Two turtle doves flying at the top, representing the spirits of the lovers. A complex geometric outer border complemented by an inner decorative lattice or floral rim.
