I created Before The Leaves Return to capture the quiet beauty of the landscape just before spring begins. This painting shows a group of bare trees standing in front of blue water. I used very thick paint and a palette knife to make the scene feel full of texture and life, even without the green leaves.

The bright blue and soft purple colors show the cool air, while the warm yellows on the ground show the first hints of sun. This work is about the feeling of waiting and the peace found in nature during times of change. It celebrates the strength of the trees as they stand tall and get ready for a new season to start.
