Description
An early 19th century Spanish Baroque style carved walnut marriage chest, or wedding coffer. Fine hand-carving with architectural elements typical of 18th century Baroque or Renaissance revival style. Featuring two floral rosettes inside framed recessed reserves. Flanking columns and pilasters add structural dimension and showcase intricate, historic geometric tracery. Ornamental mask detail underneath the escutcheon. The box sits on short turned bun feet and has a smooth solid overhanding lid with large cast iron hinges. Good craftsmanship with dovetailed joints. Working lock and key. Waxed patina. Circa 1800-1820
