Description
A striking and spiritually resonant piece, this handcrafted eight-armed Bodhisattva statue from Nepal is cast in solid bronze and stands atop a double lotus pedestal. Each of the eight arms is positioned in symbolic mudras, representing wisdom, protection, and divine compassion. The figure is richly adorned with a high crown, layered jewelry, and flowing sashes, hallmarks of traditional Nepalese sacred art.
Of special note is the figure's purple-colored hair, a classic detail in Himalayan Buddhist statuary. This coloration, typically applied using mineral-based pigment or lacquer, symbolizes transcendence and spiritual power, emphasizing the enlightened status of the Bodhisattva. The statue's dark bronze patina is beautifully aged, with warm golden highlights on the raised surfaces that lend depth and character. A foundry stamp on the underside indicates artisan origin, and the craftsmanship suggests it was produced in Nepal during the mid-to-late 20th century. The figure mounts securely to the lotus base via two cast bronze prongs, and several ornamental elements, including a floral offering, are removable or hook into place, allowing for careful transport and display flexibility.
This powerful, meditative sculpture makes a compelling focal point for interiors ranging from eclectic to bohemian, or as a meaningful piece for a personal sanctuary.
16ʺ wide, 9ʺ deep, and 25.5ʺ high.
Condition:
Alterations: Original Condition Unaltered
Imperfections: Some Imperfections
Condition Notes: Very good vintage condition. Surface wear and minor scratches consistent with age, including areas where the patina has worn through to expose the underlying bronze. Some decorative elements are designed to hook onto the figure, and the flower accessory simply rests in one of the hands. A few small parts show mild bending. The figure detaches from the base via bronze pegs. Overall structurally sound, visually commanding.
