Description
(1827 - 1889) Confederate major general captured at Fort Donelson, exchanged and led forces at Chickamauga, Chattanooga and Franklin where he was severely wounded and his command decimated. A.E.S. on a partly-printed war-date document, 1p. 4to., Bowling Green., KY, Nov. 8, 1861, a discharge for a Pvt. William B. Alley of the 3rd Tennessee Volunteers, age 22, for ‘Genl Ill Health’. Signed at the conclusion by Alley’s commanding captain, William Peaton, and with Brown executing his endorsement ‘Approved Jno. C. Brown Col Comg 3rd Regt Tenn Vols’ vertically in black ink across the page. Accompanied by Alley’s final pay receipt, both pieces showing expected folds, slightly ragged at the left edges and faintly toned, otherwise in very good overall condition.
