Description
The Teapot Dome affair was a political corruption scandal involving the administration of President Warren G. Harding. It centered on Albert B. Fall, the interior secretary, who had leased petroleum reserves designated for the Navy at Teapot Dome in Wyoming, as well as two locations in California, to private oil companies at low rates without competitive bidding. The leases were the subject of an investigation by Sen. Thomas J. Walsh. Convicted of accepting bribes from the oil companies, Fall became the first presidential cabinet member to go to prison, though no one was convicted of paying the bribes. Rare period map headed 'BIG MUDDY DOME Natrona - Converse Counties, Wyoming', 27 x 27 in. on blue waterproofed cloth, scale 2 in. = 1 mile, undated but ca. 1920s-1930s. The map shows the oil-rich tracts in the Wyoming counties of Natrona and Converse, with 'Tea Pot' located just north of 'Big Muddy', and tract owners are indicated as well. Elevations are shown at bottom. At left, there are grease pencil additions apparently showing additional areas to be staked and/or explored. Folds, very good.
