This 1865 United States two-cent coin is a bronze issue from the Philadelphia Mint (KM# 94). The obverse features the Shield design with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a ribbon above and the date 1865 below. The reverse displays the large numeral 2 within a wheat wreath, encircled by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Struck in a composition of 95 percent copper and 5 percent tin and zinc. This denomination was the first United States coin to feature the motto IN GOD WE TRUST.
Diameter: 23 mm. Circulated condition. The obverse displays moderate wear with a legible motto and date. The reverse shows more pronounced wear with significant flattening of the central numeral and wreath details. Notable areas of green surface oxidation or verdigris are visible on both sides, particularly on the reverse.
