US 1833 Capped Bust silver half dollar, minted in Philadelphia. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap with a headband inscribed LIBERTY, surrounded by thirteen stars with the date 1833 at the base. The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with a shield on its breast, clutching an olive branch and arrows, with a scroll above inscribed with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The legend reads UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with the denomination 50 C. at the bottom. This series is characterized by a lettered edge.
Weight: 0.424 ozt. Heavily circulated with significant overall wear. Both the obverse and reverse surfaces show extensive, multidirectional scratches and abrasions indicative of harsh cleaning or abrasive handling. Design details on Liberty and the heraldic eagle are largely flattened.
