Bobby Fischer and Dimitrije Bjelica autographed softcover copy of Chess Meets of the Century, published by Zavod Za Izdavanje Udžbenika, Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, 1971. The book chronicles several of Fischer’s dominant tournament performances leading up to his World Chess Championship, including the 1970 USSR vs. Rest of the World Match, the Herceg Novi Blitz Tournament, the 1971 Candidates Match against Mark Taimanov, and Fischer’s historic 6-0 victory over Bent Larsen in Denver. Both authors have signed the front free endpaper in blue ballpoint ink, with Dimitrije Bjelica signing above Bobby Fischer.

Good condition. Moderate handling and age wear to the original pictorial softcover wrappers, including scattered soiling, creasing, edge wear, and loss at the head of the spine. The interior is clean with light expected age toning. Both signatures remain bold and well preserved.

Bobby Fischer (1943-2008) was the eleventh World Chess Champion and one of the greatest players in the history of the game. A chess prodigy who became the youngest grandmaster in history at the time, Fischer dominated international competition during the late 1960s and early 1970s. His 1972 World Chess Championship victory over Boris Spassky became one of the defining cultural events of the Cold War, elevating chess to unprecedented international prominence. Dimitrije Bjelica (1935-2023) was a Serbian chess master, author, journalist, and one of the most prolific writers on the game of chess. Over the course of his career he authored more than one hundred books on chess and interviewed many of the world’s leading grandmasters, including Bobby Fischer. Bjelica’s writings helped document one of the most celebrated eras in competitive chess and remain valued references for players and historians alike.
