Details:
Collection of three original American theater and motion picture posters highlighted by a 14 x 22” mounted production poster for Bye Bye Birdie, extensively signed by Tommy Tune and numerous members of the original cast in black ink. The colorful display features signatures throughout the poster, making it an impressive ensemble piece from one of Broadway’s most beloved musicals.
Also included are two original 1941 theatrical posters measuring approximately 14 x 22”, comprising Henry Aldrich for President, starring Jimmy Lydon, and Hold Back the Dawn, starring Charles Boyer, Olivia de Havilland, and Paulette Goddard. The Hold Back the Dawn poster is slightly smaller than the other examples. Together, the three posters present an appealing cross-section of American stage and film entertainment spanning the Golden Age of Hollywood through the modern Broadway era.
The Bye Bye Birdie poster is professionally mounted and displays well. The Henry Aldrich for President and Hold Back the Dawn posters exhibit expected age-related wear, including edge and corner wear, scattered creasing, pinholes from theater display, and light toning. Overall, a very attractive collection with outstanding display appeal.
Premiering on Broadway in 1960, Bye Bye Birdie became one of the defining musicals of its era, inspired by the cultural phenomenon surrounding Elvis Presley and later adapted into a successful motion picture. Tommy Tune went on to become one of Broadway’s most celebrated performers, choreographers, and directors, earning ten Tony Awards over his distinguished career. The accompanying 1941 theatrical posters represent original advertising pieces from Hollywood’s Golden Age, featuring acclaimed stars including Charles Boyer, Olivia de Havilland, Paulette Goddard, and Jimmy Lydon.
