I. F. Stone autographed copy of his influential work The Haunted Fifties, published by Random House, New York, in blue cloth boards with gilt cover decoration. The book is signed simply, “I. F. Stone,” on the front free endpaper and is accompanied by the original publisher’s postcard announcing Stone’s temporary absence from publication following eye surgery and a mild heart attack in 1967. The enclosed card bears a facsimile signature, not an original autograph.

The accompanying publisher’s notice, dated September 4, 1967, informed subscribers to I. F. Stone’s Weekly that Stone had undergone surgery for a detached retina and subsequently suffered a mild heart attack, delaying publication while he recovered. The notice thanks readers for their support and expresses his intention to resume publication before Thanksgiving.

An ownership inscription of Lloyd Oliver, 37 Woodbine Avenue, St. Catharines, Ontario appears at the top of the signed front free endpaper.

Overall good condition with light shelf wear, mild age toning to the pages, and minor handling wear consistent with age.
