Details:
Original pen and ink daily comic strip artwork by pioneering cartoonist Frank King (1883-1969) for his celebrated syndicated comic Gasoline Alley. Executed on original artist’s board measuring approximately 22.5 x 6 inches, the four-panel daily strip is dated July 7, 1941 and depicts an office conversation concerning a requested vacation, ending with the humorous revelation that the vacation will begin earlier than expected. Editorial production notations are present in the margins, and the artwork is signed by Frank King in the final panel.
Very good condition. Moderate age toning, scattered handling wear, light edge wear, and expected production wear consistent with original newspaper comic artwork.
Frank King created Gasoline Alley in 1918, transforming what began as a comic about automobile enthusiasts into one of the most influential newspaper strips in American history. The introduction of the foundling Skeezix in 1921 fundamentally changed the medium, as King allowed his characters to age naturally in real time rather than remain perpetually the same age. Celebrated for its innovative storytelling, detailed artwork, and focus on everyday American life, Gasoline Alley remains one of the longest-running and most historically significant syndicated comic strips.
