Original pen and ink daily comic strip artwork by V. T. Hamlin (1900-1988) for his long-running syndicated comic Alley Oop. Executed on original artist’s board measuring approximately 20.5 x 6.75 inches, the four-panel daily strip is dated September 7, 1956 and depicts Alley Oop confronting the ape Guz during a humorous exchange over a ceremonial crown. Hamlin has signed the final panel and additionally inscribed and signed the third panel in red wax pencil.

Very good condition. Light overall toning, scattered handling wear, minor edge wear, and expected editorial notations from the production process. 

V. T. Hamlin created Alley Oop in 1932, introducing readers to the prehistoric caveman who would become one of the most recognizable characters in American newspaper comics. Originally set in the Stone Age, the strip later incorporated time travel, allowing Alley Oop to interact with figures and events from throughout history. Syndicated for decades and celebrated for its blend of adventure, comedy, and fantasy, Alley Oop remains one of the longest-running and most influential comic strips in American newspaper history.
