Original pen and ink comic strip artwork by pioneering American cartoonist Edwina Dumm (1893–1990) for her beloved syndicated comic Tippie. Executed on original artist’s board measuring approximately 23 x 15 inches, the complete Sunday page is dated November 2, 1941 and features the title panel, fifteen illustrated panels, and the charming story of Tippie reluctantly accepting a newly built doghouse. The artwork is boldly hand-signed in the lower left panel, “With best wishes, Edwina.”

Very good condition. Moderate age toning, scattered edge wear, light handling wear, and a few editorial notations to the reverse, including publisher and distribution stamps, as expected for original production artwork.

Edwina Dumm holds a unique place in American comic history as one of the first successful female syndicated cartoonists. Inspired by her own Boston Terrier, she created Tippie in 1917, a comic strip that would run for more than four decades through the George Matthew Adams Service. At a time when newspaper cartooning was overwhelmingly dominated by men, Dumm established herself as one of the medium’s true pioneers, earning widespread acclaim for her warm, humorous storytelling and expressive illustrations.
