Written by Morris Carter, the museum’s first director, the book chronicles Gardner’s extraordinary career as one of America’s foremost art collectors and philanthropists, detailing the creation of Fenway Court, now the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. Hardcover first edition in original green cloth with gilt decoration and lettering. Overall good condition with expected shelf wear, scattered spotting and light rubbing to the binding, age toning to the pages, and a neatly inscribed presentation on the front endpaper dated Christmas 1925.

Isabella Stewart Gardner (1840-1924) was an American art collector, philanthropist, and patron of the arts whose vision led to the creation of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. Opening the museum in 1903, she arranged its galleries according to her own artistic sensibilities and stipulated that the displays remain permanently unchanged. Today the museum is renowned for both its world-class collections and the still-unsolved 1990 theft of thirteen masterpieces, one of the most famous art heists in history.
