The cover features the blue NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Shuttle Tracking Team cachet for the STS-51-I mission and is postmarked at Greenbelt, Maryland, on August 27, 1985, the date of launch.

STS-51-I was the fourteenth flight of the Space Shuttle program and the eighth mission of Discovery, launched on August 27, 1985. Commanded by Joe H. Engle with pilot Richard O. Covey, the five-day mission deployed three communications satellites and included a historic spacewalk by astronauts James D. van Hoften and William F. Fisher to repair the disabled Syncom IV-3 (Leasat 3) satellite. The mission marked one of NASA’s earliest successful on-orbit satellite repair operations and highlighted the growing capabilities of the Space Shuttle program.
