STS-43 commemorative cover autographed by the entire five-member crew: John E. Blaha, Michael A. Baker, Shannon W. Lucid, G. David Low, and James C. Adamson. Postmarked at Titusville, Florida, on January 9, 1990, the cover commemorates STS-43, flown aboard Space Shuttle Discovery. Launched in August 1991, the mission successfully deployed the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite-5 (TDRS-5) into geostationary orbit, expanding NASA’s communications network while also conducting numerous scientific and engineering experiments in support of future Space Shuttle operations.

John E. Blaha (b. 1942) is a retired U.S. Air Force officer and NASA astronaut who flew five Space Shuttle missions before serving aboard the Russian space station Mir, where he spent more than four months conducting scientific research.
Michael A. Baker (b. 1953) is a former U.S. Navy captain and NASA astronaut who flew four Space Shuttle missions. He later held senior management positions at NASA, including Director of the International Space Station Program.
Shannon W. Lucid (b. 1943) is one of NASA’s most accomplished astronauts, flying five Space Shuttle missions and setting a then-record for the longest single spaceflight by an American during her 188-day stay aboard Mir. She is a recipient of the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.
G. David Low (1956–2008) was a NASA astronaut and aerospace engineer who flew three Space Shuttle missions. He later served in senior leadership roles at NASA before joining the private aerospace industry.
James C. Adamson (b. 1946) is a retired U.S. Army colonel and NASA astronaut who flew two Space Shuttle missions. Following his astronaut career, he held executive positions in both government and private industry while remaining active in aerospace education and research.
