STS-41-D full crew autographed cover signed by Henry W. Hartsfield Jr., Michael L. Coats, Richard M. Mullane, Steven A. Hawley, Judith A. Resnik, and Charles D. Walker. The cover bears a Kennedy Space Center postmark dated August 30, 1984, and is signed by all six members of the maiden flight of Space Shuttle Discovery.

Launched on August 30, 1984, STS-41-D was the first mission of Discovery and marked the beginning of what would become NASA’s most-flown Space Shuttle orbiter. The six-day mission successfully deployed commercial communications satellites, conducted scientific experiments, and tested new operational procedures that would help shape future shuttle flights. The mission was also notable for carrying Charles Walker, the first commercial payload specialist to fly aboard the Space Shuttle.

The crew consisted of Commander Henry Hartsfield, Pilot Michael Coats, Mission Specialists Richard Mullane, Steven Hawley, and Judith Resnik, along with Payload Specialist Charles Walker. Several crew members would go on to distinguished NASA careers, while Judith Resnik remains one of the most recognizable figures in American spaceflight history. A talented engineer and NASA astronaut, Resnik became the second American woman in space during STS-41-D. She later served aboard Space Shuttle Challenger’s STS-51-L mission and was tragically killed in the Challenger disaster on January 28, 1986. As one of the Challenger crew members, Resnik’s autograph carries enduring historical significance and remains highly sought after by collectors of space exploration memorabilia.
