Details:
STS-37 commemorative cover autographed by the entire five-member crew: Steven R. Nagel, Kenneth D. Cameron, Linda M. Godwin, Jerry L. Ross, and Jerome Apt. Postmarked at Brigham City, Utah, on September 29, 1988, the cover commemorates STS-37, flown aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis. Launched in April 1991, the mission is best remembered for deploying the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO), one of NASA’s four Great Observatories and one of the most important astronomical instruments ever placed into orbit. STS-37 also featured the first planned Space Shuttle spacewalk since 1985, during which astronauts manually freed the observatory’s high-gain antenna and conducted additional extravehicular activities.
Fine condition.
Steven R. Nagel (1946–2014) flew four Space Shuttle missions, commanding STS-37. A former U.S. Air Force test pilot, he later became Deputy Director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center.
