Jack R. Lousma and C. Gordon Fullerton autographed commemorative cover honoring STS-3, the third flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia, postmarked Rochester, New York, March 22, 1982. The cachet recognizes hometown pilot Charles G. Fullerton and commemorates the successful STS-3 mission, flown by Commander Jack R. Lousma and Pilot C. Gordon Fullerton. Both astronauts have boldly signed the cover in black ink.

Jack R. Lousma (b. 1936) is a retired United States Marine Corps officer and NASA astronaut who flew aboard Skylab 3 in 1973 before commanding STS-3, the third orbital mission of the Space Shuttle program, in 1982. C. Gordon Fullerton (1936-2013) was a U.S. Air Force test pilot, NASA astronaut, and one of the agency’s most accomplished research pilots. As pilot of STS-3, he helped further validate the operational capabilities of the Space Shuttle Columbia before spending many years advancing aeronautical research at NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center.
