James Halsell autographed flight-flown cover documenting carriage aboard a T-38 aircraft. The cover is completed in manuscript with the flight details, including July 16, 1991 flight date, aircraft T-38, and purpose “Training.” Halsell has signed in blue ink.

James D. Halsell Jr. (born 1956) is a former U.S. Air Force officer, test pilot, and NASA astronaut. Selected by NASA in 1990, he flew five Space Shuttle missions: STS-65 in 1994, STS-74 in 1995, STS-83 and its reflight STS-94 in 1997, and STS-101 in 2000. During his career he logged more than 1,250 hours in space, participating in the second Shuttle docking with the Russian Mir space station, the International Microgravity Laboratory mission, and an early assembly and resupply mission to the International Space Station. Prior to joining NASA, Halsell served as an Air Force test pilot and accumulated extensive experience flying high-performance military aircraft.
