Charles F. McKnight served as a captain in the 393rd Bombardment Squadron of the 509th Composite Group. He was regularly assigned to the B-29 Top Secret. He participated in the Hiroshima mission as airplane commander of Big Stink, which served as the backup strike aircraft stationed at Iwo Jima. Three days later, he flew as airplane commander of Laggin’ Dragon, the weather reconnaissance aircraft for the Nagasaki mission.
