George M. Marquardt autographed Japanese Government-issued 5 Centavos occupation currency note. Printed for circulation in the Japanese-occupied Philippines during World War II, the note has been signed by Marquardt in blue ink across the center of the face. The reverse displays the ornate engraved design characteristic of the series.

George M. Marquardt served with the 509th Composite Group during World War II, the specially organized U.S. Army Air Forces unit responsible for the atomic bombing missions against Japan. Based on Tinian in the Mariana Islands, the 509th Composite Group conducted the historic operations that culminated in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945, bringing the Pacific War to its conclusion.
