Philip Morrison (1915-2005) was a theoretical physicist who worked on the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos during World War II. Following the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, he traveled with the Alsos Mission to assess the effects of the bomb in Japan. In the postwar years, Morrison became one of the nation’s leading advocates for nuclear arms control and scientific education, serving for decades as a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Kenneth W. Ford (1926-2024) was an American physicist who joined the Manhattan Project as one of its youngest scientists, working at Los Alamos while still in his teens under Nobel laureate Enrico Fermi. After the war, Ford enjoyed a distinguished career in nuclear physics, authored numerous books on science and the Manhattan Project, and became one of the foremost historians and interpreters of the atomic age.
