Very good condition. Light expected age toning and handling wear to the original printed wrappers, with minor edge wear, light soiling, and a faint pencil notation to the upper right corner of the front cover. The binding remains sound, and the interior pages are clean with only light age toning.
Henry DeWolf Smyth (1898-1986) was an American physicist, educator, and chairman of Princeton University’s Department of Physics. During World War II he served as a consultant to the Manhattan Engineer District and, at the request of Major General Leslie R. Groves, prepared the first unclassified history of the atomic bomb project. Published only days after the end of World War II, the Smyth Report became an international bestseller and remains one of the most important primary source documents relating to the Manhattan Project. Intended to explain the scientific principles and wartime development of atomic energy without revealing classified information, it shaped public understanding of the dawn of the nuclear age and continues to serve as an indispensable reference for historians of science and World War II.
