Details:
Cleatus Lebow autographed commemorative cover honoring the Enola Gay, signed in blue ink. Lebow was a surviving crewman of the USS Indianapolis (CA-35), the heavy cruiser that secretly delivered key components of the Little Boy atomic bomb to Tinian Island before being sunk by a Japanese submarine in the closing days of World War II.
Fine condition.
Cleatus Lebow served aboard the USS Indianapolis, whose successful delivery of the atomic bomb components made possible the Hiroshima mission flown by the Enola Gay. Just days after completing its top-secret assignment, the cruiser was torpedoed on July 30, 1945, resulting in one of the deadliest naval disasters in U.S. history. After four harrowing days adrift in shark-infested waters, only 316 of the nearly 1,200 men aboard survived. Lebow remained active in preserving the history of the USS Indianapolis, participating in reunions and commemorative events honoring the crew and their critical role in the conclusion of World War II.
