Printed for circulation in the Japanese-occupied Philippines during World War II, the note has been signed by King in black ink across the upper right of the face. The reverse displays the ornate engraved design characteristic of the series.

John G. King was an atomic physicist who participated in the Manhattan Project during World War II. As part of the scientific effort that developed the world’s first atomic weapons, he contributed to the research and technical work that culminated in the Trinity test and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. Following the war, King remained associated with the history and legacy of the Manhattan Project through reunions and commemorative events.
