Ray Gallagher autographed First Day Cover commemorating the 50th anniversary reunion of the Doolittle Raiders, signed in black ink. Gallagher served as assistant flight engineer and scanner aboard Bockscar, the B-29 that dropped the “Fat Man” atomic bomb on Nagasaki on August 9, 1945, as a member of the elite 509th Composite Group.

Staff Sergeant Ray Gallagher served as assistant flight engineer and scanner aboard Bockscar during the Nagasaki atomic bombing mission on August 9, 1945. A member of the 509th Composite Group, Gallagher also participated in the Hiroshima mission as assistant flight engineer aboard the Enola Gay, making him one of the few crewmen to take part in both atomic bomb missions over Japan. His service placed him among the select group of airmen directly involved in the final operations of World War II and the beginning of the nuclear age.
