Hugh Ferguson was a member of the crew of Bockscar, the Boeing B-29 Superfortress that carried out the second and final atomic bombing of World War II. Flying with the elite 509th Composite Group from Tinian Island, Bockscar delivered the “Fat Man” atomic bomb over Nagasaki, a mission that, together with the Hiroshima bombing three days earlier, helped bring about Japan’s surrender and the end of World War II. Signed material from members of the Bockscar crew remains highly sought after due to their direct participation in one of the most consequential missions in military history.
