Ronald E. Evans autographed Apollo 11 commemorative first day cover, signed prominently by Ron Evans and additionally by Robert C. Hock, identified in print as “Manager, Apollo-Skylab Programs.” The cacheted cover commemorates the historic Apollo 11 Moon Landing of July 20, 1969 and bears both a Moon Landing, USA, July 20, 1969 cancellation and a Washington, D.C., September 9, 1969 first day of issue postmark for the U.S. “First Man on the Moon” commemorative stamp.

The colorful cachet depicts the Apollo 11 lunar landing, the American flag on the Moon, and portraits of astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, alongside the inscription, “One Small Step for Man - One Giant Leap for Mankind.” Evans has signed boldly across the front of the cover, while Hock has added his signature beneath the Moon Landing cancellation.

Although not a member of the Apollo 11 crew, Evans was one of NASA’s most accomplished astronauts and later served as the Command Module Pilot of Apollo 17, humanity’s final lunar landing mission. Robert C. Hock played a significant managerial role within NASA’s Apollo and Skylab programs during the era of lunar exploration, making the combination of signatures particularly appealing to collectors of space history.

Ronald Ellwin Evans Jr. (1933-1990) was a United States Navy officer, test pilot, and NASA astronaut. Selected as part of NASA’s fifth astronaut group in 1966, Evans served on the support crews for Apollo 7 and Apollo 11 before flying as Command Module Pilot aboard Apollo 17 in December 1972. While his crewmates Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt explored the lunar surface, Evans remained in lunar orbit aboard the command module America. During the return journey to Earth, he performed a deep-space extravehicular activity, becoming one of the few astronauts to conduct a spacewalk in cislunar space. His distinguished NASA career places him among the notable figures of the Apollo program.
