Crossfield has boldly signed the cover in black ink beneath the illustration of the Douglas D-558-2 Skyrocket, the groundbreaking research aircraft he flew to numerous speed and altitude records during the early supersonic era.

Albert Scott Crossfield (1921-2006) was one of America’s most accomplished test pilots and aerospace pioneers. Flying for NACA, he became the first person to exceed Mach 2 in the Douglas D-558-2 Skyrocket and later was selected as the chief test pilot for the North American X-15 program. His work on high-speed experimental aircraft played a pivotal role in advancing supersonic flight and laid essential groundwork for the nation’s space program.
