Robert Gibson, Gordon Fullerton, David Walker, and Steven Hawley have signed this attractive Space Shuttle-related cover commemorating Orbital Maneuvering System (OMS) testing conducted during the development of the Space Shuttle program. The cachet depicts the Space Shuttle Enterprise and references a series of evaluations and abort-mode testing performed as NASA worked toward the first orbital flights of the shuttle fleet. The cover brings together the signatures of four distinguished astronauts whose careers were closely associated with the Space Shuttle program.

The signers collectively represent some of NASA’s most accomplished shuttle-era astronauts. Gordon Fullerton served as one of the principal Space Shuttle test pilots and flew the Enterprise during the Approach and Landing Tests before later commanding two orbital shuttle missions. Robert Gibson flew five Space Shuttle missions and commanded four of them. Steven Hawley participated in five shuttle flights and played key roles in the deployment and operation of major scientific payloads. David Walker flew on four Space Shuttle missions and later commanded STS-53.

Gordon Fullerton (1936-2013) was a U.S. Air Force officer, test pilot, and NASA astronaut who played a central role in the Space Shuttle’s development and testing program. David M. Walker (1944-2001) was a naval aviator and NASA astronaut who flew four Space Shuttle missions, including two as commander. Steven A. Hawley (b. 1951) is an astrophysicist and former NASA astronaut who flew on five Space Shuttle missions and contributed to numerous scientific and satellite deployment operations during the shuttle era.
