Eileen Collins (b. 1956) is a retired U.S. Air Force colonel and NASA astronaut who became the first woman to pilot a Space Shuttle mission aboard STS-63 in 1995 and the first woman to command a Space Shuttle mission aboard STS-93 in 1999. A distinguished military test pilot, Collins flew four Space Shuttle missions, including STS-114, NASA’s “Return to Flight” mission following the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. She remains one of the most influential pioneers in the history of human spaceflight.
