Kenneth Dale Cockrell (born 1950) is a retired U.S. Navy captain and NASA astronaut who flew on five Space Shuttle missions. He served as pilot of STS-56 in 1993 and STS-69 in 1995, and commanded STS-80 in 1996, STS-98 in 2001, and STS-111 in 2002. During his missions, Cockrell helped deploy and retrieve scientific payloads, delivered the Destiny laboratory module to the International Space Station, and later commanded a mission that installed the station’s Mobile Base System. Over the course of his spaceflight career, he logged more than 64 days in space.
