Gene Cernan autographed Conquest of Space first day cover commemorating the issuance of the U.S. Skylab postage stamp. Postmarked in Houston, Texas, on May 14, 1974, the official first day of issue, the cover bears the 10-cent Skylab stamp and has been signed by Cernan in bold black ink across the front.

Gene Cernan (1934-2017) was a NASA astronaut, naval aviator, and commander of Apollo 17, the final crewed mission to the Moon. On December 14, 1972, he became the eleventh person to walk on the lunar surface and remains the last person to leave the Moon. Cernan previously flew aboard Gemini 9A and Apollo 10, the latter serving as the full dress rehearsal for the Apollo 11 lunar landing. Over the course of his three spaceflights, he logged more than 566 hours in space, including more than 73 hours in lunar orbit and over 22 hours on the Moon.
