John Edgar Hoover (1895–1972) served as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1924 until his death in 1972, making him one of the longest-serving and most influential figures in American law enforcement history. Under his leadership, the FBI expanded into a powerful national investigative agency, playing major roles in combating organized crime, espionage, and public corruption during the mid-20th century.
