Jimmy Hoffa autographed first edition hardcover copy of The Trials of Jimmy Hoffa: The Autobiography of James R. Hoffa, as told to Donald I. Rogers. Published by Henry Regnery Company, Chicago, 1970. Hoffa has inscribed the front free endpaper in blue ballpoint, “With Health,” followed by his signature, “James R. Hoffa.” Published while Hoffa was appealing his federal convictions and shortly before his release from prison, the autobiography presents Hoffa’s own account of his rise to leadership of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, his legal battles with the federal government, and his views on organized labor in America.

Very good condition. The original dust jacket exhibits moderate edge wear, rubbing, several small chips, and short tears, primarily at the spine ends and corners. The hardcover binding remains sound, with clean interior pages showing light expected age toning.

James Riddle Hoffa (1913-1975?) was one of the most influential and controversial labor leaders in American history. Serving as president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters from 1957 to 1971, he transformed the union into one of the nation’s most powerful labor organizations, representing hundreds of thousands of truck drivers and industrial workers. Hoffa’s career was marked by both significant gains for organized labor and persistent allegations of corruption and organized crime connections. Convicted in 1964 of jury tampering and pension fund fraud, he served nearly five years in federal prison before his sentence was commuted by President Richard Nixon in 1971. On July 30, 1975, Hoffa disappeared from the parking lot of the Machus Red Fox restaurant in Bloomfield Township, Michigan. Despite decades of investigations and countless theories, his disappearance remains one of the most enduring unsolved mysteries in American history.
